Prevent the next missing SKU
In Shopify Flow, start with Product variant added. Add a condition for an empty variant SKU, then send an internal email or tag the product for review.
This trigger covers the default variant created with a new product, variants added later, duplicated variants, and variants created by bulk actions. Verify the trigger behavior in Shopify Help.
Clear the existing backlog
Flow reacts when a variant is added; it does not prove that every older variant is complete. Export products and run the browser checker below, or start the live read-only audit for the current catalog.

- Open Shopify Flow and create a workflow using Product variant added.
- Add a condition that checks whether the new variant SKU is empty.
- On the empty branch, send an internal email or add a product tag such as
missing-sku. - Add a separate barcode check only when that catalog genuinely requires GTIN or barcode data; custom products do not always need one.
- Test with a temporary variant, confirm the notification, then activate the workflow.
Use both layers: Flow prevents new omissions; the checker and live audit find gaps that already exist.
